As I grow older and am occasionally farther away from the family that I share genes with, I realize the importance of chosen families. Everywhere I go, I hope to find and create them. In Toronto, I was welcomed into a few different ones, and created some of my own. The family pictured above means a lot to me. For one, they were my first real family in Toronto. One of my first outings when I moved here in May was a concert that Valois played with a few different bands, one of which was Koopa. Chris Shackleton (splayed out above: left) and Donald Rankin (splayed out above: right), along with Alex Shackleton (not pictured above), took to the stage and played some sexy tunes. Important note: these three are all related (brothers/cousins). After the show, I went and hung out with this beautiful family (extended family included aka friends also is this getting legitimately confusing?). Basically, I felt like I was a part of this awesome group pretty instantaneously. Thanks for being cool, everyone.
Anyways, today Chris, Bella, Don and I had an killer family day together. We chatted, we explored, we laughed, we played, we visited the dear Kelly Rankin, we ate copious amounts of pasta and nearly exploded, and we all fell in love for the millionth time. Each one of you is a beautiful treasure that I am lucky enough to have found. Thanks for a fantastic day, my loves.
