Day 61 of a Photo a Day: Books, Brews, and More Books

I didn't snag a picture of the amazing Melanie at any point as we hung out, but the rest of my day seems pretty inconsequential compared to our time together, so that is what I will blog about alongside this photo of a wasp's nest. Some giant things went wrong in the morning, but they didn't seem so daunting at five o'clock as my friend and I sipped a radler and cackled on our way to an anomalous bookstore. I feel a bit like a happy witch chilling at the cauldron when I get together with Mel. I don't know.
It smelled so great inside, and after a few conversations with the sharp old woman at the desk, Mel found her copy of The Alchemist. We took our books home and decided that we would make chili for dinner. I don't know how it started, but as the night progressed, Mel read a decent chunk of The Alchemist aloud to me. It felt very intimate and wonderful. Firstly, The Alchemist is an excellent, captivating book. Secondly, having an imaginative person who you admire and love read a novel to you is a singular experience. It was what we both wanted to do; neither of us felt hesitation in proposing that the activity continue.
The night grew darker and the laughs and cries and connection grew also. Our dear friend Lewis arrived home from Halifax and shared in the beer and chili and goodness.
I like Lewis. I like Mel. I like reading and I like social connection. I like me. Thanks for a cute time, cuties.
