This photo is very warm (thank you candles + the fiery bond between Donny and Alex). It makes me feel a lot of very warm and wonderful things.
This year, my New Year's Eve was special. I spent it on Queen Street with two of the men I love most on this planet. With Don working in the morning and me not giving a flyin' flip about what my evening looks like as long as I get to look at him and kiss his face at the stroke of midnight, I stocked up for a romantic evening of hors d'oeuvres that the two of us could enjoy. It's hard to have a good date without Alex at least being a small part of it, so it was nice that he kicked it with us for a while and (kind of) helped us eat the overabundance of foods I had amassed. Some music was played (pictured), and eventually Alex went to his girl's house to give her a New Year's kiss (not pictured).
I like this holiday. Maybe it's arbitrarily symbolic, but transitioning from one year into another, for me, has always been a cool tradition. For me, it's not usually about "this year I'm going to eat healthier and exercise 24/7 and never be sad," but more about reflecting on all of the bad and good that came out of the past year, and getting excited for all of the bad and good that I'll get to experience in the year that is just beginning. I can strive for improvement any day of the year, but I'm also happy not to give myself unrealistic goals at it's beginning that I'll probably just feel bad about not accomplishing.
I also like this holiday because I have been lucky enough to have many people love me on New Years Eve, and for me it's always been about spending time with people I love.
I think back to when I was a kid staying up way past my bedtime with my cousins and brother, playing games, and then watching the ball drop in New York City. Tonight, I stayed up with Donny eating lots of delicious food, playing Smash Bros, and then watching the ball drop in New York City. I got to start this year with what was likely one of the best kisses of all time with my favourite man in the 'verse. I am so excited to do 2017. Like any year, it will be full of everything that I need to keep growing.
Thank you, 2016. Even though you marked the end for some of my most treasured idols like Bowie, Cohen, Obama, (and the list goes on and on), you also marked the end of a dead-end job, the beginning and end of the best scholastic endeavour I've ever taken part in, the beginning of many new and important friendships, the beginning and end of a lot of different and awesome living situations, and the start of an amazing relationship with my partner in crime and in life, Donald Rankin. Let's do this.
