For the past two and a half months, thirteen of my favourite people and I have been working tirelessly to perfect the biggest presentation of our lives. Today's photo was taken with a tripod and is missing the wonderful Teghan Dodds, but here we are in the middle of a run-through, tired, but still goofy.
It's hard to believe how much work goes into a presentation when you're watching one. A good presentation is entertaining enough that you rarely think about the weeks, months, or even years of preparation that went into it. That's the standard we were aiming for.
We shot footage and photos, edited videos, created logos and images, developed content, created an online fundraising campaign, and wrote killer scripts. Our professors picked apart our presentation for our own good, we revised everything we'd done, and we got back up again to prove ourselves. It was tough, and we're still at it. We've run through our two and a half hour presentation enough times now that we feel ready(ish). We want to change the way that the world communicates science so that it actually reaches and resonates with people. We're doing this presentation to tell professionals that they need this kind communication if they want to create change.
Take a look at our campaign, Change for Environmental Communication. Please consider donating to it so that we can pay for conference registration fees, travel expenses, and little things like prints and equipment.
We present on Wednesday. It's getting so real. As in most things in life, I am totally nervous and excited. Let's see how it goes.
